Maybe.

Purged RSS feeds and random people off of GReader and LJ.  I have actually been visiting Facebook on a daily basis.  Posted to Twitter for the first time in 6 months.  Thinking about trying to remember  how to do CSS to do a custom skin for tumblr.   Generally poking at things with sticks.

first post from Vista.

I am pretty sure I don't like it much.

I can't connect to my wireless network.

It is very shiny.

Everything is alot more clicks away now.  And it is always asking questions.

I think I am going to install Fedora Core 6 now.

went to my aunts in southern CT for two days, ate a lot saw random family members.  Read a lot of wilderness survival books and talked outdoor stuff with my cousin, who is in training to be a mountain man.  Friday drove up to Portland, party that night at Rob/jw/Aaron's new place. Missed Black Friday mayhem due to a cold that was in no way going to let me drive 4 hours Thursday night and then stay up for the rest of the night/morning.   Had two breakfasts.  Went to L.L. Bean. Looked at the approximately 1000 dollars worth of gear I need to get to be properly setup to hike next summer.  Played a lot of Guitar Hero II.

Finally bought a new car.  2007 Dodge Caliber SXT.  Its pretty great. It has windows that go up and down and door s that can be both unlocked and opened.   Now I can stop saving all my money to pay for the down payment, and start spending it on its monthly payment.  I need to start robbing banks or something.
My '94 Forrest Green Taurus, thought often ridiculed by many, will be missed.  It was a great car.

I ruined a bunch of hats last night at EMS.

I needed a new winter cap. But the problem is that my skull is larger than a normal skull. and, well, the world just isn't made for people like me. Its not huge in a medical oddity sort of way, I don't fall over under its enormous weight or anything, its just large enough to cause problems when trying to find a hat. One-size-fits-all hasn't been true for me in years. But I did find one that fits, so its a win for me.

the EMS brand ones are especially small.

Work is pretty much totally insane, all the time. We are coming in at somewhere around 800 desktops, 9 servers, 6 buildings and 4000 users (400 staff, the rest are students who don't really ever make requests other than forgetting their passwords.) And supporting all this is my boss, and, hang on, let me count, oh me. Theres a person at the high school and middle school that does (what we have come to describe) academic support (replacing toner, showing people how Outlook works, putting tickets into the system and some minor technician type things). We have a consultant who comes in once a week and does the heavy lifting for the servers, fixing Active Directory, Exchanged, etc. We have another consultant from the same company who has been coming in and is on my level a couple times a week. Thats about it.
The school that got renovated still has bits and pieces that aren't done yet. Still waiting for some projectors to be installed. The video distrubtion and recording system still needs to be setup despite it sitting in its rack for the past month. But all the computers are in and installed, finally. I imaged the last one about a week and half ago.

I did pass my 6 month review with flying colors. I am just going to use the comments page as my next resume.

I took last Friday and Monday off for my birthday and headed home, where there was much, much drinking. Saw JW's, Rob and Aaron's new apartment. Scott flew in. Friday night we all went out, things got blurry and there was a lot of walking. And Nerf guns. Alot of Nerf guns. Saturday was the real event, the Maine Brewer's Festival. The drinking gods allowed me to partake in the drinking of beer, which is always hit or miss for me. It was pretty much the greatest thing ever.

After months of saving, not buying much, and turning 25 I started my quest for a new car. I finally managed to make it to a dealership to test drive the car I wanted. And I liked it, which is good because I didn't have a back up vehicle in mind if I hated it. They had one with all the features I wanted, but it was in orange. Which, in discussing with my lawyers, turned out to be a good choice not to get as it would have been dubbed the Pumkin Mobile/Stage Coach and I would have been called Cinderella (They offered me some money off because of the color). Now I'm waiting for them to get one in black from another dealer. Now I guess I really have to get a new license and get insurance.
Side Note: During the test drive, a Chrysler Pacifica was in front of us, and the salesman went on about he just bought one for his wife, and how it had all these great safety features. Seeing how I wasn't driving a Pacifica, I am wondering if this is some sort of sales method that I am just way to stupid to even begin to comprehend.

User: That machine needs to be on. It runs the interface for (something something HVAC system something)

Me: It can't be on. It has a virus that has disabled its anti-virus scanner. The only way to get that machine back today is to reformat it.

User: You can't do that, its the only machine that runs that software and it was specifically set up by the vendor to do so.

Me: Well, it can't be turned on.

I've been thinking about this, and I think its a good idea.

I want a FireFox plugin that scans the webpage that I am reading, and if it mentions any concept designs,  it removes them from the page.  I have been burned too many times by a article or picture of some thing super cool, and then to have my hopes crushed seconds later by reading that it is conceptual.  I don't want to know about it, especially since concept items seem to rarely get made. Also, possibly support for removing posts from gadget sites that contain phones that are only going to be sold in Japan.

This is totally great.

mind you, on my system, it would be running great, except for the fact that it is somehow kills gnome-window-decorate. Which means I lose the titlebar/toppart of a window. I have become somewhat attached to the ability to move, maximize/minimize and close windows.

progress.

2 weeks until teachers start.

3 weeks until students start.

1 school doesn't have its 60+ new desktops installed yet.

The other school isn't finished being renovated yet, so its still going to be at least a couple of weeks until the desktops can be install.  And have the network tested. And make sure all the voip phones work. And have its staff be briefed on XP, coming from Mac OS 9. And and and ....

I am pretty glad that we don't actually have to put the PCs on the desktops, the company that got the bid for them is, and everthing being done with images.  So hopefully that will cut out alot of the problems.

Hopefully.

HP

work is a all HP shop. For the most part, its not bad, I haven't alot of hardware problems past the usual wear and tear, the servers are pretty badass, etc. Most of the problems I've had with them are usually with ordering things from them. Most part we can get from a 3rd party, but there are some specific parts, like fusers, that there just isn't a large enough market for them to be carried by other companies. Other times, they just have the cheapest price. Most orders through them have taken forever, and are incredibly hard to track down once they do get ordered.

As per yesterdays post, I had to call tech support to get two replacement harddrives for 2 nx6110 laptops (one was a user's, the other a mobile lab machine). I called regular tech support, was hassled relatively little to get the parts, and was told by the tech 2 business days for the drives to arrive. Fair enough. I get off the phone with them sometime around 5, 5:15. I get to work at my becoming usual 8:00:59am, do my usual bit of stumbling about, waking up, checking email. Secretary comes into my office about 8:30, hands me a box which contains one replacement harddrive. Well, wooweee boy, that was pretty quick. Not even a day, let alone two. I am pretty impressed. Odd, however, why didn't we get two drives at the same time.  Oh well, still impressed. About 9, phone rings.  I pick up, its a guy from the HP parts department, apologizing, but there was a slight delay in the shipping of the 2nd drive, but it should be there by Friday morning.  Makes sure I get his number, and the case number they've internally assigned to the late drive.  They really win points for that.  Granted they where under extended CarePacks (regular warranty had expired), but still a day and half early, AND a call for something that I wasn't even expecting until Monday.

anyways, I place my order, and this comes up. I have never bought Kerouac, so I'm pretty confused about that one. I'm not really sure what Amazon is trying to tell me with this. It showed up after a order that only had hellblazer comics in it. and a led flashlight. and a poster of the Great Wave.

my work account has been getting spam.

That, in itself, is not special or unique.

The fact that it is passages from Lord of the Rings, I feel, makes it stand out slighly.
